It's hard to find a place in midtown Manhattan with reasonably-priced (for the area!) food. But this place comes close. Our Place Shanghai Tea Garden has a lunch menu with amply-portioned items at just the right price (check out the attached pdf menu). I've been to this place several times and have tried various lunch specials, like the beef with broccoli and shrimp lo mein. Both dishes were tasty and good enough for lunch. But this time around, I though I'd try something from their regular menu. I got one of their Shanghainese specialties, which is a slices of pork belly in red sauce. When it first arrived, it looked like jello from the top (because of the fat). But you know me - I love my fat! It was just the right amount and added flavor to an already flavorful dish. I don't see myself ordering this dish all the time as it was just too much for lunch! But once in a while is just right - especially when dining with a good friend who's willing to split the calories with you!
