I can't believe I've been having bad luck with steakhouses two weekends in a row. First, Steakhouse 85 in New Brunswick. And now this?? Broadway Mike's Steak House is reinforcing my belief that there are no good steak places outside of Manhattan.
Before I go into everything that's wrong, let's start on a positive note. The bread basket (served with caponata) I started off with was not your usual fare. They have warm soft bread which I enjoyed with butter. They also had pretty good appetizers. I thought the Kobe Beef Balls were delicious. They're little meatballs that had a good taste and were sized just right for appetizer portions. The Pork Lollipops were tender. Although they're really just pork shanks dipped in barbecue sauce. But still tender and tasty. And the dishes were tastefully presented. The chef goes through great efforts to create dishes that are pleasing to the eye (as you can see from the pictures). This is important because the overall look is part of my enjoyment of a meal.
But after all is said and done, the taste is still the most important component of a meal. And I didn't come to a steak house to enjoy the appetizers. I was looking forward to a delicious steak meal but, alas, I was disappointed once again. The steak purist in me demands that the meat be presented on a plate, cooked in whatever spices added to it, with vegetables/sides/garnishing that the chef deems appropriate to put in there. Do not ever give me steak sitting in Bearnaise sauce, especially when your menu does not make any mention of it. Perhaps the sauce was used to mask the lack of taste on the steak? Not only was it tasteless, but my steak wasn't cooked right. I asked for medium well (with generally a pinkish look) but instead I got something bloody. The outside was okay but as I cut away at the meat the redness began to show. I didn't even bother finishing my steak.
The sides included on my plate (broccoli and garlic mashed potato) tasted like it was frozen and not freshly made. The mashed potato did not have that creamy fluffy consistency one would find in freshly made ones. Even the extra sides of Creamed Spinach and Steamed Garlic Broccoli I ordered tasted frozen as well. Said spinach was sitting on Bearnaise sauce too. What is this love affair the restaurant has with Bearnaise sauce??
As a food lover sometimes you just have to soldier on. So I bravely ordered tiramisu for dessert. Even that was a mistake. The tiramisu had undertones of either raspberry or lemon. I did not taste the espresso at all.
Needless to say, a lot of food was wasted that night. Sorry mother, I know there are a lot of kids hungry in this world but I just couldn't stomach one more bite.

Review from @gower86 (02.24.13):
Broadway Mike's steak is fantastic! The leftover steak was excellent the next day. Garlic mashed potatoes were cold - could have been warmer to the palate. Appetizers - Kobe meatballs, fried calamari, beef lollipops, and mozzarella carozza could have had more seasoning. The restaurant was uncomfortably cold.
